OverviewLinux version of LV-SDS does not contain all the components provided by the Windows version, most notably the Orchid library and Windows-related multimedia drivers (such as Video for Windows or Twain). However, all the core functionality of LV-SDS covered by Daisy and DRAL libraries is fully supported in Linux LV-SDS version. The interface and behaviour is almost completely identical on both platforms, the few platform-specific exceptions are well described in Daisy/DRAL documentation. System and Distribution CompatibilityLinux LV-SDS is available in versions for 32-bit and 64-bit PC systems (i386 and x86_64 platforms). The version for x86_64 Linux platform is a true 64-bit library and it is available since LV-SDS version 1.96.228-03. LV-SDS is available for systems based on the new 2.6 kernel series, as well as for the older 2.4/2.2 kernels. We recommend, however, to use a 2.6 based distribution wherever possible. We cannot test LV-SDS on every Linux system available, however, LV-SDS is proven to work fine on most major distributions. When using with some more exotic ones, the user might be required to do some small adaptations of LV-SDS installation scripts. In case of need for assistance, please contact Leutron Vision. If you find some compatibility problem with your distribution, please do not hesitate to inform us. Distributions based on kernel 2.6LV-SDS is compatible with all kernels of the 2.6 series (tested with up to 2.6.20), we are not currently aware of any issues. LV-SDS is provided in two versions, one for gcc/g++ compiler versions 4.x/3.4, the other for compiler versions 3.3/3.2 (1.96.221-01 was the last LV-SDS version supporting also gcc 2.95). We have tested LV-SDS for Linux on following 2.6 based distributions:
Furthermore, we know of successful usage on some other distributions as well:
The two lists above cover all most popular distributions. In general LV-SDS should install and work fine on any LSB-compliant system. In other cases, LV-SDS should also work fine, but some extra effort might be needed to successfuly finish LV-SDS installation. Distributions based on kernels 2.4 and 2.2We have internally tested LV-SDS with plenty of different versions of SuSE and Red Hat systems based on 2.4 kenrels. Many customers are successfuly using other popular distributions as well. Most notes from the 2.6 section also apply for the 2.4 based systems, however, we recommend to use distributions based on kernel 2.6 where possible as it is now our primary target Linux version for all the tests. Anyway, support for kernel series 2.4 will of course remain in LV-SDS in future. We expect LV-SDS to be compatible with kernel series 2.2, however we make no guarantees about that. Kernels prior version 2.2 are not supported. |
